california state fair

last week, i had a half-day at work, and joe and i decided to go to the state fair for the afternoon! there are many county fairs near us, but since we live to close to the state capitol, we were able to go to the state fair. i didn't notice that it was too different than many other fairs i've been to- still lots of rides, fried foods, animals....all the classics! i haven't been to the fair since i was about 14, but since i'll be moving out of the area soon, i thought it would be good to go while i still can!

it's been hothothot here, so this little romper was good for (trying to) stay cool! we've also been eating merlino's every chance we get! it's an old sacramento tradition, and now is only available at 3 places in town! it's basically italian ice or fruit freeze, but it is seriously so good! we hunted down the booth as soon as we got to the fair! we got  a mix of raspberry-lemon.


and of course we visited the animals! we saw the cutest baby piglets and goats:



there was also beautiful gardens all throughout the park, and i had to get some pictures with the sunflowers (even if they were decorative)!


and in the spirit of celebrating california, our state flower, the poppy:

it is actually illegal to pick poppies! i'm not sure if this is customary of all state flowers, but for some reason it always makes me laugh a little :D
