pre-move river day

before i moved, some of my best friends from high school and i got together for a trip to our local "river spot." it was such a lovely day- the weather was beautiful, i got to catch up with old friends, it was the perfect way to end the summer.

looking back at these pictures, i really miss being back there. i try to keep my blog a pretty positive place, but i'm going to be honest for a moment and say that while i have enjoyed getting to know my new town, i've been really lonely. i haven't met too many people outside of work, and i've had a lot of quiet, introverted days around the house. these pictures really bring me back to the height of summer and makes me miss my friends and familiar terrain.

this was the spot we went to- isn't it beautiful?!

a major hobby of mine back home is picking blackberries! when they show up, i know it's really summer. the path from the car to the river was literally swarmed with blackberry bushes and i could not help myself!

i'm trying hard to enjoy my new surroundings, and have to push myself to go out and explore. today i went to the beach and to the farmer's market that they hold downtown. school starts for me on monday, so that will be a welcome distraction from my current state of feeling down. i've always gotten excited for the first day of school, but this one will be quite momentous for me- first day of grad school at my new university! expect an outfit post from that one for sure! :D

  1. Blackberries! One of my favorite memories is of picking blackberries when I was at a camp I went to for a week with my 6th grade class. I wish there was somewhere near where I live to pick them. The spot you went to is gorgeous!

  2. these photos are so summery, they almost make me sad that it's autumn around here... almost :) i loooove blackberries and never really experienced them until i lived on the west coast. my boyfriend and i had a huge blackberry bush in the backyard and we would go out every morning and pick them fresh to go with our granola! i miss that :)

sorry to hear you're feeling a little lonely--i'm sure that things will fall into place once you start school, though it may take some time. i've been there, believe me.

  3. These photos are wonderful! Even thought I'm so ready for fall, this post kiiiind of makes me miss summer. Also, I've never had the opportunity to pick fresh berries, so I'm quite jealous!
Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit lonely, though. I think that happens whenever you go somewhere new. You'll meet people soon enough though - you're such a lovely lady! :)

  4. I hear you on all of this! First, these look like the quintessential summer activities... there's nothing like getting into some nature and then eating some blackberries! Also, I know all about feeling lonely in a new place. I feel kind of lonely these days myself. Forcing yourself out is good (too bad it's currently pouring over here), grrr
